Duomo di Milano: frequently asked questions
Terraces only, Duomo plus terraces, Culture Pass: what is the difference?
The terraces ticket gives access to the roof only, on foot or by lift. The Duomo-and-terraces ticket also includes the cathedral, without the Duomo Museum. The museum comes with the Duomo + Museum ticket (no terraces) or with the Culture Pass (Duomo, Archaeological Area, Museum and Scurolo di San Carlo, no terraces). The name “Duomo Pass” still appears in the Fabbrica’s sales conditions, updated on 19 June 2026, for a pass that includes Duomo, Museum, terraces and Archaeological Area; on its sales page on 24 October 2026 we found no product with that name, only “Duomo e Terrazze”, which includes the Duomo and the terraces. We follow the sales page: check what the ticket includes before you pay.
Do I have to climb to the terraces on foot?
No: there is a ticket on foot (251 steps, according to the ticket page) and one by lift. The lift reaches only the first level; to the second level and for the descent there are stairs only. The route is one-way, not all stairs have handrails, wheelchairs are not allowed and strollers must be folded. Children under 12 need an adult of at least 18. People with mobility aids can reach only the first terrace, behind the choir, with a companion.
When is the Duomo open, and what about the museum and the works?
The Duomo and the terraces are open every day from 9:00 to 19:00, last entry at 18:00. The Duomo Museum is open from 10:00 to 19:00 and closed on Wednesdays, when only the Duomo ticket is sold. Times can change without notice for celebrations and weather: on Saturday 24 October 2026 the notice calendar said ticket sales stopped at 17:30. The Fabbrica has been restoring the tiburio and the dome since 2016, and the Baptistery has been under works since 29 January 2023, with no end date published. For 24, 25 and 31 December, 1 January, Easter and other holidays we found no rule, so check before you go. Read on 24 October 2026.
Can I change the date or get a refund?
For tickets bought from the Fabbrica, the date can be changed free of charge: write to info@duomomilano.it, within 3 months of the purchase and up to one working day before the chosen date; only the buyer can ask, and the Fabbrica says it replies within 15 days. Refunds are not provided, except when access is totally impossible for exceptional reasons or bad weather, and then the presale fee is deducted. Tickets from other sellers follow their own terms: according to the listing, the Duomo + rooftop and Duomo + Museum tickets are not refundable. Reduced, free and partner-rate tickets need a valid ID document and are personal; we found no rule on names for full-price tickets.
What should I wear and what can I bring?
In the cathedral, sleeveless or low-cut clothes, shorts, miniskirts and hats are not allowed; the ticket pages say to cover shoulders and legs and recommend comfortable shoes for the terraces. Not admitted: suitcases and large bags or backpacks, umbrellas, selfie sticks, helmets, glass, drones, bicycles and scooters, and animals except guide dogs. Eating and drinking are not allowed, except water and medicines. There are no toilets on the terraces, in the cathedral or at the main ticket office: they are in the Duomo Museum or outside, where they are paid. For luggage the Fabbrica points to Radical Storage; we did not read the price. Professional photos and video need authorisation; some ticket pages say no flash.
