By metro

Duomo is served by lines M1 and M3. From Milano Centrale take M3: Duomo is the fourth stop after Centrale, after Repubblica, Turati and Montenapoleone. From Cadorna, M1 reaches Duomo in three stops, via Cairoli and Cordusio.

ATM, the city's transport company, sells an ordinary ticket valid for 90 minutes from the first validation and a daily ticket valid for 24 hours (read on 24 October 2026); the current fares are on the ATM website (atm.it). The Mi1-Mi3 tickets are valid on all ATM lines, on the metro lines M1, M3, M4 and M5 from terminus to terminus, and on Trenord trains within the zone. Children under 14 travel free with a document.

From the airports

From Malpensa, the Malpensa Express run by Trenord takes 37 minutes to Milano Cadorna and 51 minutes to Milano Centrale, read on 24 October 2026. Trenord's pages give different train frequencies, so check the timetable. From Cadorna, M1 takes you to Duomo in three stops; from Centrale, M3 in four.

From Linate, take M4 and change at San Babila to M1: Duomo is one stop away. We did not read the total journey time. According to ATM, M4 runs until about 00:30, and the NM4 night bus takes over afterwards.

In the square and around it

Aerial view of the Piazza del Duomo from the cathedral roof: the light geometric paving, a crowd of visitors and pigeons, and a stone monument at the top of the frame.

The DuomoInfopoint, at Piazza Duomo 14/A in the Sala delle Colonne, is the place to ask for the wheelchair loan.

In a straight line from the Duomo: Palazzo Reale and the Duomo Museum about 150 m, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II about 210 m, the Teatro alla Scala about 430 m, the Pinacoteca di Brera about 930 m, the Castello Sforzesco about 1.26 km and the Last Supper about 1.65 km. These are distances on the map, not walking times, which we have not measured.

Accessibility

From the churchyard there are ramps of about 20 m with a maximum slope of 8%, and a short ramp at the entrances with a 21% slope. The nave is wide. The Scurolo and Crypt of San Carlo, the weekday chapel and the Baptistery of Santo Stefano are not easily reached; the Archaeological Area is reached by 27 steps. A manual wheelchair can be borrowed free at the DuomoInfopoint, leaving a document.

People with disabilities and their companion enter free. With mobility aids you can reach only the first terrace, behind the choir, by lift every day from 10:00 to 17:00, and you must be accompanied. The Fabbrica also offers tactile panels and visits in Italian Sign Language.
