Book tickets and visits →The Duomo station is on the metro lines M1 and M3 (ATM timetables in force from 31 August 2026). In a straight line the cathedral is about 395 m from the museum (we did not measure from the station itself), and Cairoli (M1) is about 580 m. These are distances on the map, not walking times, which we have not measured. We could not confirm tram or bus routes.
A single ticket for Milan and the surrounding area (zones Mi1 to Mi3) lasts 90 minutes from the first validation, and there is also a 24-hour ticket (ATM, read on 24 October 2026); the current fares are on the ATM website (atm.it).
The usual sequence is Piazza del Duomo, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and Piazza della Scala; Baedeker’s 1913 handbook (p. 162) describes the Galleria as connecting the two squares. In a straight line the Duomo is about 206 m from the centre of the Galleria, and the centre of the Galleria is about 195 m from the museum.
In a straight line the museum is also about 480 m from the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana and about 550 m from the Pinacoteca di Brera.
ATM lists Milano Centrale as a stop on the lines M2 and M3, and Duomo as a stop on M1 and M3; check the direction with ATM. The M4 reaches Linate in 12 minutes from the centre and meets the M1 at San Babila, according to ATM.
The Malpensa Express runs from 4:00 to 2:00 between Malpensa and Milano Centrale, Porta Garibaldi and Cadorna, according to Trenord (read on 24 October 2026), with trains about every 15 minutes (the page for Cadorna says every 30). Trenord’s pages give about 51 minutes from Centrale and about 37 from Cadorna. Trenord has works in 2026 that change some trains, so check Trenord before you travel. We could not confirm the buses from Orio al Serio.
A lift reserved for visitors goes up to the museum rooms and the boxes; ask the staff at the entrance for assistance. Strollers are allowed and use the lift.
